Visiting Sleepy Hollow for my 1 year anniversary – Things to Do

Over the holiday weekend, my boo & I decided to take a day trip up to Tarrytown, NY. Coming off of 4 birthdays back to back (mine, my mom’s & his parents #libragang ) plus planning our anniversary, I was STRESSED. I wanted each day to be special in their own right. We toyed with the idea of renting a cabin but decided it was a little late in the game to do. He came up with the lovely idea of visiting somewhere we hadn’t been before. We hopped in our zipcar & we were off to Tarrytown!

On our drive up I felt an immediate sense of calm, this is what our day is supposed to be about! Happy, in love, & ultimately, stress free. The drive is only about an 1hr 15mins outside of the city via car, but you could also take the Metro-North. (I don’t recommend unless you plan to only go on main st as it’s a bit of a walk from the train station & far from other sight-seeing activities.)

First thing to know: Tarrytown & Sleepy Hollow are both cute little towns next to each other.

We were hungry af so first stop:

Lefteris Gyro:

I got the Gyro platter which comes with Greek salad, pita & fries. Naturally, I had to order the Greek Frappe as well. (That’s essentially the same coffee craze you saw on TikTok) The vibe is exactly what you’d imagine of an old school Greek diner. Our waiter was a no-nonsense, wise-ass & we loved everything about him!

Next we went to Coffee Labs & got some pumpkin spice lattes with oat milk (I know, basic as hell but tis’ the season amiright!?) AND it was so delicious too. Another coffee shop that was recommended was Muddy Water.

We strolled along main st. took pics at the Music Hall & then popped in to Bella’s Boutique which had a bunch of knick knacks and trinkets. I bought 2 postcards designed by local artists to add to our scrapbook. The shop owner Wendy was so lovely in giving us suggestions on what to do in town.

Our next stop was Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.

I know what you’re thinking, WHY would you want to go to a graveyard on your anniversary!? Honestly? It was beautiful. We drove through in complete awe at how peaceful & gorgeous it was. I definitely recommend visiting there if you go, it wasn’t spooky at all. Closes at 4:30pm fyi.

Here’s a pic of one of the bridges we drove over in the cemetery:

We then stopped by Blue Hill at Stone Barns. They do an elaborate high-end picnic utilizing whatever produce is in season, sourcing the finest ingredients. You can also do a picnic box to-go. It was closed the day we went, but we were still able to explore the grounds. Acres of farm land through and through.

After, we went to Rockefeller State Park Reserve. Parking in this lot is normally $6 but since it was a holiday, it was free.

This was one of my favorite parts of the trip. A stunning woodsy area, uncharted territory (to us) & just deciding along the way which direction we were going to go next. We walked down the first path which led us straight to “Swan Lake”

Swan Lake, Rockefeller State Park Reserve

We kept exploring the park, passing some wheat fields blowing in the wind. We were on the search for this 500 yr old tree we heard about (we didn’t find it.) As we were walking we ended up seeing a herd of goats which we figured must’ve been the back of the Blue Hill property! A cute little lab was their guard dog.

We drove around town a bit more, it was quaint & seriously felt like I was in Halloweentown! Even with many shops closed due to the holiday, I appreciated less people being around.

To end the night, we went to the docks to see the Tappan Zee Bridge all lit up. (aka Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge)

It was a perfect day. Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow can definitely be done in one day, it’s a sweet little town & even more magical in the Fall. I definitely plan to visit again sometime.

If you plan to visit, or have before, let me know in the comments below! xx, Arielle
