The Capital One Venture X Card is one of the best travel credit cards currently.
After months of research, I finally decided to apply for the Capital One Venture X due to all of its great benefits. As this was my first travel credit card, I wanted to be certain it was for me. Let me tell you why I love this card:
Capital One Venture X Travel Credit
Each year, you get an annual $300 travel credit when you book through the Capital One Travel Portal.
That alone brings down the annual fee of $395 to $95 effectively. That’s essentially $300 of free travel a year. Not bad.
Booking through the portal is very easy. You can use the travel portal to book hotels, flights and car rentals. I used my travel credit on booking a hotel. Plus you get 10x miles on hotel bookings.
Capital One Venture X Lounge Access
This benefit really excited me. As someone who previously had never been in an airport lounge, I didn’t really know what I was missing out on. Let me tell you, it has changed the game for me. With the capital one venture x card, you get unlimited complimentary access to lounges for you and 2 guests. Plus a complimentary Priority Pass membership which has a network of lounges globally. What’s in an airport lounge? Food, drinks, wifi, comfier seating areas! This saves you money by not having to buy food at the airport. This of course varies from lounge to lounge, but you may just find yourself planning your flights around visiting lounges.That’s what I did at least on my trip to California. I visited the Capital One lounge in the DFW Airport and it was amazing. I even took some snacks for the next long plane ride which definitely helped when I got hungry.
10x miles on Hotels 5x miles on Flights
Whether you’re a beginner travel hacker or an expert, the name of the game is to get more points.
You can get 10x miles on hotel bookings and 5x miles on flights through the capital one travel portal.
I love using the travel portal to maximize my capital one venture x points, especially for hotel bookings.
For a valentine’s day staycation at the Williamsburg Hotel in Brooklyn I earned 1,600 points for a $160 stay. Now, think of that but for a longer stay. You can easily rack up thousands of points with one vacation. Also, capital one has a price match feature. If you see a cheaper price for that same booking on the hotel’s website after you book, call capital one and they’ll match it. Just a note- you will be refunded in the form of travel credit.
No Foreign Transaction Fee
For a travel credit card you need one that doesn’t have any foreign transaction fees as that can add up a lot!
Hertz President’s Circle Status
Get free upgrades when you book with Hertz. You must enroll for this benefit.
$100 Global Entry or TSA PreCheck Credit
Now let me tell you, the global entry hype is real! Having Global Entry will save you so much time from those long lines in the airport. Even when you’re prepared, unexpected things can arise and you don’t want to be hassling through the airport almost missing your flight. The Capital One Venture X card gives you $100 credit when you pay for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck with the card which pays for the application fee! Also, I recommend getting Global Entry because it comes with TSA PreCheck included. Already have Global Entry? No problem, use the credit on a family member or friend!
2x miles on EVERYTHING
Yep. You read that correctly, you get 2x miles on everything. It may not seem like much, but something is better than nothing especially when you’re making purchases that you otherwise can’t get with a higher bonus category.
Cell Phone Protection
Get reimbursed up to $800 if your phone is stolen or damaged when you pay for cell phone bill with the Venture X card. (Certain terms, exclusions & conditions apply.)
Free entry to museums & events
Get a complimentary 6 month membership to “The Cultivist,” an arts membership club where you get access to 50 global museums for you and a guest. I personally would plan to activate this membership when you’re going on a euro trip as they have quite a few museums on their list that you can visit abroad. It’ll save you money on museum entrance fees! For example, you can go visit the Guggenheim museum like I did for free!
